No

 @9FVZPPS from Illinois agreed…6mos6MO

The CSA was an enemy nation to the United States, and although people have the right fly any flag they choose, state governments flying the flag would make it seem like they are in support of rebellion from the United States government and the start of another civil war, and to show the flag of the nation would be in support of their ideals, which are based around things like slavery and segregation.

 @9L3N8HG from Washington agreed…6 days6D

It is also a reminder of the racist South that used to exist in the United States which should never be glorified or rekindled ever again

 @9FL3JNC from California agreed…6mos6MO

Battle of Liberty Square New Orleans was fought between the White League and Louisiana where the White League were Neo-confederates who opposed multi-racialism

 @9FZNHFRRepublican from California agreed…6mos6MO

Yes people are invited to have their own opinions, however when those opinions put the lives of particular groups and ultimately the whole country in danger, that is when it becomes a problem.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...9yrs9Y

No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism and treason

 @9F98SLY  from Texas agreed…7mos7MO

Every single state listed slavery and maintaining white control over other races as their primary cause for seceding. Read each state’s articles of secession (their very own words describing their stances).

 @R3volutionDean from Virginia agreed…7mos7MO

Indeed, historical documents such as South Carolina's declaration of secession explicitly mentioned the "increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery" as a reason for their departure. Mississippi's secession document was even more direct, stating "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery--the greatest material interest of the world." Therefore, while some may argue the Confederate flag symbolizes Southern heritage, it's undeniable that this heritage is deeply intertwined with the institution of slavery. Do you think there is a way to remember and teach about this part of our history without causing offense or harm?

 @8X7YP6T  from GU disagreed…12mos12MO

How is the flag racist if the south joust fought for state rights,not slavery

 @9CWNLNCfrom Maine commented…8mos8MO

States rights means slavery. They fought for the states rights to allow slavery.

 @9GBJCM2 from Massachusetts agreed…5mos5MO

The Confederate flag is little more than a symbol for a country that no longer exists and who's greatest achievement was almost beating the U.S.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...9yrs9Y

Yes

 @9F98SLY  from Texas disagreed…7mos7MO

Only people that have not read their state’s Articles of Secession would feel comfortable flying that flag. They have a misplaced loyalty to a treasonous cause, that has only been successfully propagated by intentional ignorance.

 @9FFN8JB from North Carolina disagreed…6mos6MO

It’s loyalty to states rights and checking a runaway federal government, not loyalty to treasonous cause. The question is flawed.

 @9FFKWKP from North Carolina agreed…6mos6MO

I agree! Most of the people who use it are using it to dog whistle their racism and use the "history" as a shield, without understanding the true history of the flag

 @9F8MGYB from Mississippi disagreed…7mos7MO

I do not have a counter argument because I do not argue with racists. I simply dismiss their ideas outright.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...9yrs9Y

Yes, each state should have the right to display any flag they choose

 @9GWSHN7 from New York disagreed…5mos5MO

No way. They lost. Get over it. It's illegal to display the Nazi flag in Germany, so we should follow suit

 @9G2SZQ2 from Oregon disagreed…6mos6MO

the Confederacy is inherently a Racist, Treasonous state that led to the establishment of Lynch Mobs like the KKK, the confederate leadership should've been tried for Treason. Flying a confederate flag ought to be akin to flying an ISIS flag.

 @9H5GDKV from Missouri disagreed…4mos4MO

The confederate flag is racist, it hold negative connotations of our country and therefore should not be proudly displayed.

 @9FVZPPS from Illinois disagreed…6mos6MO

I am not against citizens flying any flag they choose, however the CSA was an enemy to the United States and a state government flying the flag of the CSA could be comparable to them flying the flag of other enemy nations like Afghanistan or Iraq.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...8yrs8Y

No, and ban any public display of the flag

  @jsimicConstitution from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism and treason

We should still allow for freedom of association.

But the gov't shouldn't fly the treasonous flag.

 @9F7RCPR from Massachusetts disagreed…7mos7MO

Many people will argue with many flags, but a flag means something to someone and everyone should be able to fly the flag that means a lot to them.

 @9F73M3V from Wisconsin disagreed…7mos7MO

because people from the south or anyone who was on there side may have other reasons just other than slavery.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...7yrs7Y

No, it should be put in a museum where it was originally flown

 @9FZNTR6 from New York disagreed…6mos6MO

It’s a constitutional right to be able to fly any flag a person wishes within the United States of America.

  @jsimicConstitution from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism and treason

The gov't shouldn't fly the enemy flag.

Citizens are a different matter.

 @9GJVRS4 from Tennessee disagreed…5mos5MO

he flag most commonly displayed as representing the Confederacy is the Beauregard battle flag, also known as the Southern Cross.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...8yrs8Y

Yes, it is a historical symbol of the Southern fight for states’ rights

 @97J4T59 from West Virginia agreed…1yr1Y

Yes, it is a historical symbol of the Southern fight for states’ rights

This is exactly what led to the civil war....States did not feel federal government had a right to control them so much. I love seeing other people agree with the fact that it shows the states willingness to defend their rights against the federal government

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...8yrs8Y

Yes, but only at historical monuments where it was originally flown

 @9G5NCQ5 from Maryland agreed…6mos6MO

Persons and NGOs should have the right to fly any flag they wish, but the Confederate flag should not be officially flown except at monuments, because it represents rebellion in the name of slavery.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...7yrs7Y

Yes, it symbolizes rebellion not racism

 @9FLZP7ZSocialist  from Florida disagreed…6mos6MO

The Confederate Flag represents the entire of the Confederacy. Including all of their treason and crimes against humanity.

 @9F8YX4L from Alaska disagreed…7mos7MO

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of the Confederacy, an inherently racist "nation" that lasted for four years. The Confederate Flag was used when the South receded from the United States of America, and chose to continue the legalization and use of slavery as a form of production and labor within companies. The Confederate Flag should only be shown within the government in education to educate those unaware of it's symbolism in the history of slavery within the United States of America.

 @9DGYZHH  from Michigan disagreed…6mos6MO

To all the enslaved people and their ancestors, it is a symbol of trauma and death for their people.

 @9FMTXG7agreed…6mos6MO

I don't know. My ancestors were not enslaved to my knowledge so therefore if they were it clearly is not too traumatic, at least for me.

 @9GBJCM2 from Massachusetts disagreed…5mos5MO

If you feel the need to support Rebellion in the first place the American Flag itself is a symbol of more successful and more meaningful Rebellion

 @8LQJKBFIndependent from Kentucky answered…3yrs3Y

as a historical piece-yes, but not for anything else as it can symbolize racism and discrimination

 @8N6QGZS from Texas answered…3yrs3Y

This sounds just dumb, it isn’t a bad thing, I personally don’t care, but it’s just a dumb thing to want

 @8M7HMYPUnity from Nebraska answered…3yrs3Y

Regardless, the confederate flag is not a symbol of the country therefore it would not make sense to fly it on government property.

 @4YCRRZYfrom Massachusetts answered…3yrs3Y

 @4XQZWHCfrom Texas answered…3yrs3Y

I think that we should have been educated more about it growing up. I am 22 and I just now found out what the confederate flag was from clicking the learn more button. I think if we were educated more on history regarding subjects of race and battles that took place and one race overthrowing the other, then we could breakdown racial stigmas that are still in this world today. Nothing is wrong with stereotypes but when it determines the way one person treats another, that's when it's not okay. As for the flag, it shouldn't fly in public places. In your home or on your property…  Read more

 @5DPVVN7from Wisconsin answered…3yrs3Y

Only the Stars and Stripes, State Flag, POW/MIA should be flown on U.S. soil. Not Confederate, Mexican, ISIS, or other country.

 @4XMWC8Hfrom Massachusetts answered…3yrs3Y

They should be allowed to fly any flag they chose, but no state should chose to fly the Confederate flag, just like no state should display the Nazi swastika on state property.

 @4XRL7NPfrom Texas answered…3yrs3Y

Why on earth does anyone want to display such an elemental facet of murder, evil, human chatter, poisonous and discriminatory toward a race of people and an ongoing thorn of reminder and bad karma. No.

  @jsimicConstitution from Texas answered…6mos6MO

No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism and treason

Dishonor

The CSA was founded in defense of slavery, committed treason against the union after Lincoln was elected, and took states rights too far.
