The police are a majorly local organization, this means that these different groups are designed to deal with smaller, less severe, local problems. With this in mind, asking the police to deal with these extreme situations on their own would not be reasonable or safe. These officers are then given military grade equipment in order to deal with these problems although they may've (most likely) never had used the equipment bestowed upon them, this leads to many situations not being able to be safely concluded. Higher agencies with more specialized training and equipment to better deal with these severe problems in a way that uses the training that they have received, compared to the police without this particular training.

The police are supposed to deal with local/state issues. If something is so problematic it needs more force, then a higher agency should be equipped.

The police are needed to provide safety for the community and keep crime rates low, so when you ask a 40-year-old police officer, for example, to try and disarm a potential terrorist with a bomb strapped to his chest the odds of that situation ending in a positive result is way less than if you were to send a trained specialist with te right training and equipment for that exact scenario.

That is an understandable point, however it is not effective. The police have sufficient training to use military grade equipment to neutralise a situation. The main priority is to protect the public, not to rely on a small and unreliable number of people to protect a large amount of people, which is what this aims to do, all in the defence of “higher agencies”, I would far rather a situation be dealt with quickly and normally as opposed to slowly and proficiently.

The police are locally managed. As such they have little accountability to the wider public since only the people in the immediate vicinity can vote concerning them. Therefore, they should not be given access to federal military equipment. This should be left to people who are regulated by the federal government.

There are other ways to decrease the amount of school shootings. For instance, there should be stricter rules on who is able to enter a school. Such as only being able to enter if wearing a school badge.

I believe the police should only be able to have control over certain situations. If we give our local police more power then we have to worry about how they use this power. I think instead we should just contact higher authorities who have training in those situations.

Police do not need military equipment, they should mainly handle crime which is manageable by police but for extreme situations should contact agencies with the specialized training and equipment to handle such situations. Overall police cannot be fit to handle so much so instead of forcing them to do more then they're capable of a professional agency should be used.

Defunding or demilitarizing the police poses a threat to public safety. Statistics show that while people believe the world gets more dangerous every year, the crime rate has slowly been falling every year. There are barely any police hate crimes or abuses of power and the use of these weapons by law enforcement protects the public.

Their have been many incidents already and their will be many more so the act is just the act and the action can be done whenever.

Police would not do good against a shooter with a machine gun or bomb , we should use the fbi or use some other organization to solve the problem , try to snipe the criminal , if they are out in the open or call the bomb squad if they would try attack.

While advocating for extreme situations to be handled by specialized agencies is important, relying solely on higher agencies neglects the crucial factor of response time. Immediate responses are often vital in critical incidents, and waiting for higher agencies to arrive could result in potentially life-threatening delays. Equipping local law enforcement with certain specialized tools, along with appropriate training and oversight, can provide a rapid response to emergencies, ensuring public safety without over-militarizing routine policing.

Giving the local and state police the ability and resources will bring tougher crackdowns on crime without the wait for federal agencies.

One example of why the military shouldn't have military equipment unless with training, is in the case of a non-peaceful protest.

Many wars are going on if we don't have high agencies or well trained people to handle those situations there will be many deaths. Cops can't really do anything with what they have etc... nor are they trained.

If an police officer dose not have the specialized training that is given to officers of higher agencies in regards to the proper usage and handling of different equipment such as military grade weapons, all parties involved have a higher risk of injury or death.

the new york times reports that "violent crime is up as cities lose police officers," explaining that as the police force decreases, crime rate increases.

 @9GKNM3R from Virginia agreed…6mos6MO

i feel if you need to use military grade equipment you need someone who is better trained and has better judgement

 @9FVGK4N  from South Carolina agreed…7mos7MO

Regular police departments should not have the power to impose their will on a population. Extreme situations should be handled by special departments with specific training.
