Add EDP nurses/professionals to the police force, if necessary, and fund THAT. But stop relying upon police to intercede in medical (drug overdose) and mental health situations. It doesn't work out well for either the police OR the EDPs.
I don't think that police need over-inflated budgets, I think that we should keep them but only have a specialized task force that has guns and gear. I think the rest should be suited to respond to medical emergencies like drug overdoses and mental health situations, of course. If there was a shooter at a high school or something then you would need to equip the regular police with guns but only in those special circumstances. I think ordinary traffic stops would be a lot safer for people of all races if police didn't have guns, and that would free a lot of money that could be used somewhere else.
