Mandatory vaccination helps prevent outbreaks of diseases that have not been deadly or risky to children and individuals for years. An example of this is the MMR vaccine and measles. Vaccinations decrease severe symptoms and hospitalizations, and effectively allow your immune response to prevent or lessen the disease. As well as this, a tactic used to eradicate small pox in low income countries required the use of contact tracing and mandatory vaccination of contacted peoples. The ability to choose to do something that negatively can affect the society at the low risk of serious adverse side effects in one individual is selfish. I think a real argument should be made for mandating big pharma to be held responsible for any negligence, adverse affects, and monitoring required to make sure the process is as safe as possible.
