One only needs to look at the US carpet bombing of Cambodia.
The first glaring difference between the bombing of Cambodia and the bombing of Gaza is that the former was kept secret from the US Congress, the American people and the world as bizarre as it may sound today; it was obviously not-so-secret to the Cambodians. The incessant bombardment of Gaza, however, is boasted about to the world by Israeli leaders and receives overt encouragement and material support from the US and other Western powers.
Over five decades ago, the US Air Force executed “Operation Menu” followed by “Operation Freedom Deal” to eradicate the Vietcong, the People’s Army of Vietnam, from Cambodia. It focused on carpet bombing vast swathes of land to destroy the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a massive network of pathways and tunnels used by the North Vietnamese through the jungle linking North to South Vietnam, via Cambodia and Laos.
The bombing of Cambodia had already started in 1965 under the Johnson administration; Nixon merely stepped it up. Between 1965 and 1973, 2.7 million tonnes of bombs were released over the country. In comparison, the Allies dropped an estimated 2 million tonnes of bombs during all of World War II.
Thus, Cambodia may be the most heavily bombed country in history. By square kilometre and thermic value, however, it might have already lost that tragic record to Gaza.
Biden, Blinken and Netanyahu should be reminded that the horrific carpet bombing of Cambodia for years produced only one seminal political outcome: Cambodia’s takeover by the infamous Khmer Rouge. What the posited annihilation of Hamas would yield is thus not a frivolous question. “Anything that flies, on anything that moves” and bombing to “crack the hell out of them” sowed death and craters still visible today. It produced infamy and misery, but no military victory.

Israel has been attacking and torturing Palestine for years and they want to act like the victim now of all times? I think it's crazy how much they're trying to get Gaza or trying to win over Palestine however they can, even if it means killing thousands upon thousands of people's lives. At this point, it looks like they're doing all of this to show off, not really wanting the land at all. They seem to want to look like the strongest and it's seriously not doing anything for them.
@RightThrushDemocrat6mos6MO
The Israel-Palestine conflict is a throbbing quagmire of complexities. The Balfour Declaration of 1917 set the stage for Jewish immigration to Palestine, which was then under British control. This move was seen as a betrayal by the Arab world, which had been promised independence. Fast forward to 1947, the UN proposed a partition plan, giving separate states to Jews and Arabs. Although accepted by Jewish leaders, it was rejected by Arab leaders and Palestinian Arabs.
The narrative of Israel solely as an aggressor doesn't paint the full picture. Israel has been on the receiving end of attacks as well. For instance, during the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel was surrounded by Arab nations ready to attack. Israel's pre-emptive strike was a response to an existential threat.
@9GX8LDT6mos6MO
It is very tragic what is happening.
@9GX7F566mos6MO
I believe that bombing a country won't help anyone solve unfinished business. It will just cause more camotion than anything else so much death and hate will occur.
@DrearyCardinalGreen6mos6MO
History has shown us that violence often exacerbates conflict rather than resolving it. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II may have ended the war, but it also resulted in long-lasting resentment, fear, and a nuclear arms race.
@9GXD9PS6mos6MO
Its very sad, and horrible, and disgusting.
@9GXJNMKWomen’s Equality6mos6MO
Their bombing of Gaza won't do anything but destroy a group of people. It won't stop, fix, or help anything but bring terror to people.
@9GXGW296mos6MO
It only causes more death and bombings kill innocent civilians no matter how hard people try to avoid it.
@9GX8X6X6mos6MO
I think that they need to approach this issue more politically and hold meetings rather than kill one another.
@9GXBXCZPeace and Freedom6mos6MO
I think that Israel has to help the hostages who are in danger.
@9GXQFDF6mos6MO
There's no need to harm innocent people.
@9GXN76SIndependent6mos6MO
Gaza has lain in ruin for years already, bombing it will not stop Hamas, but rather it would encourage the children of the innocent victims to fight against Israel.
@9GXF5DV6mos6MO
With the current coverage of events in Gaza, by people in Gaza, the general public has finally been disillusioned with the idea that what Israel is doing is moral. The UN has condemned Israel's actions as war crimes, and the US's refusal to provide support for Gaza shows that we do not truly care about people, but instead the profit we make off the bombs Israel buys from us to kill children with.
@9GXNBFZPeace and Freedom6mos6MO
Biden needs to stop funding a military superpower of pure lethal intentions in order to "aid" a country that does not need our assistance.
@9GXLKLL6mos6MO
if you support the genocide of innocent Palestinian citizens, invest in therapy
@9GX7VGVIndependent6mos6MO
There will be no victory. they will just to fight back there will be no peace
@9GXDT8W6mos6MO
bombing a holy site is a big mistake because in the bible every holy site is "protected by god" and if you have a rivaling religion that has the same god but a different view, you are going against what you believe in, you are attacking your god.
@9GXGSHB6mos6MO
I think it is an important event that people should be educated upon.

There needs to be a ceasefire period. Nothing can defend the atrocities that Israel is committing against Palestine, they have broken International rules when it comes to war, one being using white phosphorus on a large group of civilians. I don't understand how this is being overlooked.
@AmusedC1v1cRepublican6mos6MO
Israel has the right to defend itself. Each instance of violence has its own context, and in some cases, Israel has responded to attacks launched from urban areas, putting civilians at risk. As for the claim about white phosphorus, it's a serious accusation and if true, it should be thoroughly investigated by international bodies.
@9GXN9DX6mos6MO
I think that it is true that bombing Gaza won't bring Israel victory
@9GXRT266mos6MO
I believe a resolution is what's best for both sides, I don't support either country but am sorrowful for the losses that have occurred.
@9GX7MCS6mos6MO
Bombing Gaza and attacking Palestine is wrong and unnecessary.
@9GXQ9XWWomen’s Equality6mos6MO
Israel can get their own country and leave instead of hurting palestinians, like girl what makes you think you can hurt people because you don't have a land. You are literally doing ethnic cleansing and mass genocide like bye.
Let everyone have peace and please split the land and everyone agree with the UN without any Vetos preferably
@9GXN4N26mos6MO
both sides of the war are in the wrong
@9GXRXNYWomen’s Equality6mos6MO
Gaza and Israel should just stop going to war because they are killing all these innocent kids and families
@9GXRQKQ6mos6MO
It shows how brute force and violence is not the solution to problems
@9GXW6DF6mos6MO
Bombing civilians will not lead to lasting peace.
@9GXSYM56mos6MO
Israel and Gaza need to come to an understanding and agreement to stop the violence and stay out of each other’s ways.
the need to stop all wars and have world peace
@MindThrushe6mos6MO
Do you think Israel is exerting excessive force?
@9GXV4GC6mos6MO
Yes, Israel is trying to completely wipe out an ethnicity and is using excessive force against the civilians
@9GXVTVW6mos6MO
There's war for justice, then there's war for revenge.
@9GXV6ZB6mos6MO
I believe they are going a little over the top, I understand why but it’s a little much.
@9GXTZDR6mos6MO
Yea, but they also just had a huge attack on their homefront by someone they have been waring wth for a long time
@9GX8KYF6mos6MO
to be honest i dont even know whats happening over there, just that children are dying so i hope they do stop to make sure innocent people dont lose their lives
@9GXPKGG6mos6MO
Israel is killing civilians and we shouldn't be funding that.
@9GX9LVR6mos6MO
I think that it's a pointless endeavor for petty revenge but I also know that I have no experience so all I can offer is my sympathies.
@9GXMG2P6mos6MO
I think they should stop fighting
@9GXB8XX6mos6MO
Israel is violating the Geneva Convention and committing war crimes. They should be stopped.
There is truly no unbiased news source for this topic, and I think both sides are somewhat in the wrong, but Israel is being overly violent, and not all Palestinians stand with/agree with Hamas.
@9GX6XSPIndependent6mos6MO
If Gaza continues to be bombed, all they will want to do is fight back. If Gaza continues to fight back, a end to this conflict would not come any closer.
@9GXJBJR6mos6MO
Civilians dying is never right under any circumstance.
@9GXDJD8Peace and Freedom6mos6MO
I stand with Palestine all the way
@9GX7FD2Women’s Equality6mos6MO
I don't really know how to feel about it to be honest I could care less.
It is very heartbreaking and sad.
@9GXF6SFWomen’s Equality6mos6MO
I think that us americans should try and help the best we can without getting to much involved and getting in world war 3
@9GXSZMM6mos6MO
War is stupid and needs to be stopped
