Starting Jan. 1, all undocumented immigrants, regardless of age, will qualify for Medi-Cal, California's version of the federal Medicaid program for people with low incomes.
Previously, undocumented immigrants were not qualified to receive comprehensive health insurance but were allowed to receive emergency and pregnancy-related services under Medi-Cal as long as they met eligibility requirements, including income limits and California residency in 2014.
In 2015, undocumented children were able to join Medi-Cal under a bill signed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. In 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law an expansion of full-scope Medi-Cal access for young adults ages 19 through 25, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Access was then further expanded to allow older adults aged 50 and older to receive full benefits, also regardless of immigration status.
The final expansion going into effect Jan. 1 will make approximately 700,000 undocumented residents between ages 26 and 49 eligible for full coverage, according to California State Sen. María Elena Durazo.
Who pays for this?
@DecimalSnipeLibertarian4mos4MO
You and me.
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
Not me, I don't live in California, praise God. But those poor people who do obviously must be stolen from to fund this.
@MerePloverLibertarian4mos4MO
California is going bankrupt. They are missing loan payments to the feds and stopped all spending in state offices. This will just hasten their collapse.
it's such a coincidence that a large percentage of the last handful of lottery winners were sold in CA, too. Just weird that they brought in close to a billion in taxes from lotto winnings in the last year.
@MerePloverLibertarian4mos4MO
Let’s give free healthcare to illegal immigrants!
Why don’t we just start doing it for other countries all together!
Help speed up the process. The United States can just start paying for all the health insurance in Central America!
That actually may be cheaper than what is happening now.
no kidding why, not just spend less money to have these people stay in their own homeland?
@MerePloverLibertarian4mos4MO
That would be better but the reason they are doing it this way is to destroy the US and guarantee one party rule in perpetuity. It’s beyond evil.
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
Most people don't know this, but the federal government is unconstitutionally funding programs and regimes in Central America as we speak. And what the funding is going to is much more terrifying and disturbing than socialised healthcare (which is saying a LOT). Rather than a confederated Republic of thirteen independent and autonomous sovereign States, we've become an international busybody and global policeman whose Governors, living in delusions of utopia and Empire, have wrapped their tentacles on regimes across the world, funding proxy wars that prolong human suffering at the… Read more

You single-handedly created a worse idea than Project 2025, congratulations.
Not the first one. Illinois has been doing it for quite sometime.
@NurturingT4riffRepublican4mos4MO
Not the same thing. This is an actual health care plan.
@ISIDEWITH4mos4MO
Should access to healthcare be a universal right, irrespective of a person's legal status in a country?
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
There is no right to anything but life, liberty, and property.
There is no right by anyone, anywhere, anytime to demand that a criminal government cartel of IRS agents steal money from innocent people in order to pay for your healthcare.
@9CJ6CB64mos4MO
You do know that everyone gets taxed so everyone can afford healthcare, right?
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
Yes, I do realise that the government steals the wealth of the lower and middle class through income taxes and inflation, takes the money it stole from them, pays the special interests and congressional salaries, pays for a bunch of anti-liberty programs, and then sends back a reduced amount to them in the form of crap "healthcare" that prescribes endless drugs and pharmaceuticals instead of getting to the root cause of people's health problems. Are you, however, aware that the government cannot give anyone, anything, that it did not first take from someone else, or in the case of this sick-care system, from the very person to whom "Services" are being provided? Are you aware that theft is morally reprehensible regardless of whatever one intends to use the plundered wealth on?
@9HSLD2Y 4mos4MO
I support it and believe others if they haven’t should do the same
@GraciousSealGreen4mos4MO
There was an amnesty under Reagan. Obama deported roughly 3 million people. So what you say isn't true. It does not only move in one direction. And if you want to bet on whether anyone will be deported in the future I am confident you can find someone to take the other side.
@9HSPBPC4mos4MO
We should remove California from the US
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
Or secede from the US and create a new confederacy that follows the Constitution and loves liberty above all else.
@9HSQ9VN 4mos4MO
Absurd practices should be a newsworthy concern for all taxpayers as well as a spotlight on who authorized the policy and how much it will cost. It should be easier for taxpayers to get information on how their taxes are actually spent and where the money will come from for these new, unbudgeted expenses.
@9HSQ3JH4mos4MO
I picked this one because we should focus inside the USA we have problems to fix here first before we focus on other countries issues. I think it’s crazy to give immigrants health care when a lot of Americans cannot get healthcare. Focus on the citizens before you focus on trying to get a vote.
@9HSK5NS4mos4MO
Typical of that state giving away hard earned tax dollars. It's easy to spend other people's money.
@HushedD3baterRepublican4mos4MO
TX and AZ….send all buses to CA. It is the most humane thing to do.
