Religious tenets inherently have secular and political implications. There is nothing wrong with religious entities speaking about those topics (though it can definitely go too far at times).

Having laws based on a religion is extremely oppressive. Not everyone follows catholicism and people who don't or maybe aren't even religious at all are then at a disadvantaged not being represented by the government
