the U.S. was founded by immigrants (in reality, genocidal empiralists). Indigenous peoples have lived here long before the U.S. or the people who founded it did.
The U.S is one of, if not, the most culturally and ethnically diverse nations on earth. Diversity is our greatest strength. Instead stripping people of their culture and forcing assimilation (which is racist and a form of genocide), we should embrace cultural diversity and educate on differences. For example, non-english language classes should be mandatory curriculum from k-12 and proficiency should be expected. Available classes should be determined by district proximity to communities that predominantly speak that language and teachers should be native speakers of the taught language.
Learning about cultural and ethnic groups in the US and globally should be mandatory, as well as learning how the U.S. and colonial/empiralist nations/groups have negatively impacted these peoples, predominantly through genocide, forced assimilation, legal discrimination, enslavement, unlawful containment, and more.
