Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently more than twice as popular as US President Joe Biden in key Middle Eastern countries, according to a new Al-Monitor/Premise poll, offering a view of how America’s beleaguered brand is suffering amid outrage over Washington’s support for Israel’s devastating Gaza offensive, particularly in Egypt.
That said, a multitude of factors could be influencing opinions, and our survey results paint a complicated picture of public attitudes around great power competition in the Middle East and their implications for their future political and economic ties as well as opportunities and challenges for multinationals.
The Global Politics Survey, which polled 2,670 respondents across Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia and Turkey, was conducted by Al-Monitor in partnership with data and analytics firm Premise between March 4 and March 22, 2024. When asked which world leader respondents view most favorably between Putin, Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, a plurality of 44.4% chose Russia’s leader, compared to 21.7% for America’s commander in chief. For context, an October 2023 poll by the Arab American Institute found Biden’s support among Arab American voters had fallen from 59% in 2020 to just 17%.

Russia/Putin are aligned with Iran and have helped Iran in arming and training Hamas and Hezbollah. Interestingly enough, Bibi Netanyahu is also very friendly with Putin, like Trump, Bibi is a certified member of Putin's global authoritarian movement.

Lol.
When was Washington ever popular in the Middle East?
Who cares about our reputation there?
@lemans3427Republican1mo1MO
Wasn't that the whole point of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars?
The U.S. was supposed to build these democracies that would worship the U.S.
@Equ4l1tyFaithRepublican1mo1MO
Sure Putin helped murder 500k million Syrian Muslims, and displaced millions more, but now he's rhetorically against Israel.
Arabs rn: Swoon!
You people are cheap dates.

Russia floods the zone with effective propaganda. They also buy, compromise or extort public officials. That said, the Iraq War and warped policy that accommodates repression, occupation, human rights abuses and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank have destroyed all credibility.
@UnicornGeorgeRepublican1mo1MO
Yeah, because they've always been big fans of the US over there till now. Does "death to America" or "the great Satan" ring a bell?
@SolidNomineeDemocrat1mo1MO
Putin will always be evil. Hamas will always be evil. Iran will always be evil.
@S0cialistElandDemocrat1mo1MO
Does this surprise anyone that a Russian communist leader and terror supporting Middle Eastern countries would be supporting Hamas over a country like Israel that is just trying to defend itself and wipe out the last strong holds of terrorists in the Gaza Strip?
@JumpyBadgerDemocrat1mo1MO
Trump ceded the Middle East to Putin. His betrayal of the Kurds,our best ally there,and giving free rein for Russia to own the sky, by teaming up with a murderous thug to bomb Syria into the Stone Age. The ME is becoming part of the Russian sphere. Foreign policy of a 4 year old
Illustrating how much of the middle east appreciates totalitarianism.
Need to understand what you are up against, folks. Years of "they are just like us" lectures look childish right now
