The university is correct that she doesn’t have a 1st Amendment right to make a speech at commencement.
But free speech is a virtue that goes beyond the limits of the 1st Amendment. Just because they don’t have to let her speak doesn’t mean they shouldn’t.

But if they have reason to believe a student is going to be disruptive at an event, and cause potential safety issues they alluded to, they have a LEGAL obligation to take steps to prevent it.
